![]() | About UsBrookwood Hall in East Islip has been home to the arts for nearly 40 years. The Islip Art Museum, the Islip Arts Council, the Museum School and the Carriage House have all called this building their home. Now after nearly 40 years the very new Town of Islip Administration has decided a better use for the Carriage House would be to store lawnmowers and the "waste of space" as they refer to the Museum galleries would be better used as office space and conference rooms for town officials. Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenburg (to name a few) have graced the walls of that "waste of space." Yes, some of the same artists who are in the Museum of Modern Art. Where else can you see what's new in Contemporary Art, discover the History of Islip, visit site specific installations, explore a historic building, listen to a concert, and take an art class all in one building? And all for a reasonable fee or in many cases FREE!! If you support the Arts in Brookwood Hall please call, email and write the town officials and let them know you want the Islip Art Museum, Islip Arts Council and Carriage House to stay right where they are - Brookwood Hall - Leave IAM where I am. |
